Kumi has over 20 years of experience in the medical field working in primary care, nephrology, and cancer care for patients. She realized many patients needed more than conventional medicine in the treatment and supportive care required for healing. She became passionate about understanding and helping to educate patients about integrative medicine. Principles of Integrative medicine are all factors that influence health, wellness, and disease including mind, spirit, and community. It is the appropriate use of both conventional and alternative methods that facilitate the body’s innate healing response. Good medicine is based on good science.
Kumi has a core belief that many chronic conditions can be prevented, reversed, or managed to influence a better quality of life through nutrition, exercise, supplementation, and specialized modalities of integrative medicine. Recovery and healing are more than treating the symptoms but the need to understand and treat the cause of the condition. Experiencing challenges within her own family with acute and chronic conditions she has compassion and empathy for the patient as well as the families involved in the care. Disease always affects the entire family.
Researching the role of inflammation, mitochondrial damage and how they are implicated as a major contributing factor for several non-communicable chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, obesity, and insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes, Kumi has also developed a line of products that may help in supporting mitochondrial biogenesis.
