Shirley Wang, M.D., grew up locally in Irvine, California. From a young age, she was exposed to and influenced by the expansive health benefits of acupuncture, Qigong, Tai Chi, and Chinese herbal medicine.
Dr. Wang attended UCLA, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her master’s degree in education. She worked as a 3rd grade teacher in South Central Los Angeles before shifting her focus to medicine. Dr. Wang then went on to USC for medical school.
After a year of internal medicine in Long Beach and a year of neurology in Philadelphia, Dr. Wang realized that—though fascinating—neurology was not the direction she wanted to pursue. Around this time, her interest in holistic medicine was piqued. She took some time off to attend conferences and take classes focusing on functional medicine, anti-aging, aesthetics, chiropractic, acupuncture, psychology, and energy healing.
She quickly realized the more modalities she had at her disposal, the more perspective and options for healing she could offer her patients. With genuine holistic care as her goal, Dr. Wang notes that her journey has led her from treating illnesses to optimizing physical health to caring about “wholeness” with mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness to heartful living.
Dr. Wang is particularly interested in the meditation and energy healing space. She eagerly anticipates helping patients with anxiety and depression, those who need help with hormone balancing and gut health, and anyone looking to optimize their energy overall.
Dr. Wang has seamlessly taken the passion and skills she learned during her early teaching career and transferred them to her doctor/patient relationships. She enjoyed teaching immensely because it allowed her to share everything she had learned and discuss exciting subjects with her students. Her patients are now her students as she explains medical conditions, test results, treatment options, etc.
A lifelong student and lover of learning, Dr. Wang shares, “I’ve been learning and exploring integrative medicine for the last eight years and am looking forward to learning more.” The Center for New Medicine and the Cancer Center for Healing are the perfect place for her to continue to hone her craft.
When she is not working, Dr. Wang loves reading, taking relaxing walks in nature, visiting museums, and enjoying comedy. She looks forward to welcoming patients to her care as partners in the driver’s seat who can help navigate and guide their wellness journeys alongside her.
