Who is Dr. Alexandra Carlton, ND?

Dr. Carlton is dedicated to educating and inspiring her patients by being a conduit for healing and optimal health through highly individualized and compassionate patient care. She exudes pride in helping her patients overcome and prevent chronic diseases through various integrative modalities. She believes that the journey to optimal health stems from a balanced partnership between provider and patient with shared decision-making.

Dr. Carlton earned her doctoral degree in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University in San Diego, California, followed by a three-year residency, where she became a chief clinical resident doctor at UC–Irvine Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute. After completing her residency, she was selected to continue as an attending clinical doctor at UCI. She started multiple clinical initiatives including the integrative breast wellness and employee wellness programs. During this time, she spent countless hours working on her craft and found a passion for the following clinical specialties:

Specialties:

  • Integrative cancer care – early detection, testing, and treatment
  • Women’s Health (menopause, hormone replacement therapy, hormonal imbalance, PMS, PCOS, fertility, postpartum, menstrual irregularities, etc)
  • Cardiometabolic Health (hypertension, elevated cholesterol, metabolic disorders, diabetes, weight gain, dysautonomia)
  • Endocrinology (thyroid disorders, stress hormones, autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid diseases)
  • Cognitive and Mental Health
  • Gastrointestinal Health
  • Dermatological conditions
  • Environmental Medicine

Dr. Carlton’s interest in health began at a young age when she witnessed family members who were healthy and living abundant lives juxtaposed against other loved ones who had chronic illnesses. At this stage of her life, she came to understand a simple fact – when people are healthy, they are happy and when people are unhealthy, they are unhappy. She realized that genetics doesn’t necessarily determine your outcome in life. This sparked a curiosity within, which led her down the path to naturopathic medicine.

As a collegiate team athlete, she knew when she took care of herself mentally, physically, and emotionally, she performed at her peak. She believed that prevention and lifestyle choices were the key to health and knew she wanted to help guide others to become the best version of themselves.

While getting her naturopathic doctorate at Bastyr University, she received advanced training in gynecology, cardiology, nutrition, autoimmune diseases, mental health, and optimizing genetic potential. She was a peer counselor to the incoming first-year medical students, a teaching assistant, and volunteered in third-world countries. Dr. Carlton received her bachelor in science in human biology with an emphasis on applied physiology at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Carlton is a travel enthusiast and animal lover, who enjoys yoga, hiking, camping, dancing, sports, and whole foods cooking.
