What is NAC?
NAC restores normal liver levels of glutathione and helps to heal the liver damage caused by acetaminophen. It’s also used in conventional medicine to break down large amounts of mucus, a common symptom of conditions such as emphysema, bronchitis, pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Benefits of NAC IV Therapy
Detoxification
NAC is well known in the medical community for its ability to prevent or reduce damage to the liver and kidneys in cases of acetaminophen overdose.
NAC can also reduce undesirable effects from other medications and environmental toxins. NAC works by supporting the liver and can even minimize the damage from drinking alcohol and decrease hangover symptoms.
Brain Health
NAC benefits the brain in a couple of different ways because it regulates glutamate levels. Glutamate is the most important neurotransmitter, and it is required for normal brain function.
When there is too much glutamate and not enough glutathione, the imbalance can cause brain damage and contribute to mental health disorders including bipolar and OCD. NAC has been shown to reduce symptoms of bipolar disease, addictive behavior & depression.
Glutamate is also critical for a range of important brain functions including learning, memory, behavior, and protection against age-related oxidative damage. Early studies point to NAC playing a role in slowing the progression of diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. More research is needed to understand NAC’s full potential for improving brain health.
Respiratory health
NAC is an antioxidant with the ability to relieve symptoms of respiratory ailments and reduce inflammation in the lungs. NAC works by helping to boost glutathione levels and thinning/loosening mucus in the airways.
NAC has been used to improve symptoms of:
- COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Chronic bronchitis
- Cystic fibrosis
- Asthma
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Congestion caused by allergy or infection
Studies have shown NAC can improve lung function by decreasing inflammation and acting as an expectorant for mucus, making it an important supplement for anyone dealing with compromised lung function.
