As a little kid, she enjoyed watching her dad passionately studying the human chromosomes and helping his patients know their health challenges. He lived his life dedicating his effort to decipher the genetic codes. She followed in her father’s footsteps and at age 16, after passing several tough exams, she started her first year of medical school. Throughout the medical school years, Dr. Lashin was assigned a faculty member position at Cairo University, a professor of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, infectious diseases, Tropical Medicine for more than 18 years. A decade after her Ph.D., Dr. Lashin’s father was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. A sudden devastating monster that appeared overnight to turn the life of a non-smoking, fully active, healthy man upside down. Cancer transformed her father into a bedridden patient with post-surgical hemiplegia and multi-organ failure after radiotherapy. Without treatment, his life expectancy was 6-8 months while. With all treatment modalities, he was given 8-12 months to live with the suffering of all the side effects of the medical interventions, which was quite accepted by the doctors treating him!
For Dr. Lashin, that was the wake-up call for all the silenced calls ignored in her medical career. She felt that there should be a much better way to heal and provide serious methods for preventing diseases. Dr. Lashin had lost her role model. It was quite painful to observe her father deteriorating by the minute, and witnessing the mediocre treatment offered by traditional/conventional medicine providing him anything but successful treatment for his condition or even a better life quality for the few months left for him in this world. With a lot of courage and an open mind, Dr. Lashin shifted her medical practice from conventional medicine to the integrative medical approach combined with all aspects of health, recover the damage, cure the problem, and maintains patients’ health after treatments.
After many years of applying Integrative or Functional Medicine to her approach to medicine, she began to see significant health achievements and recognizable improvements in her patient’s outcomes – mental, physical, emotional, and functional health and human optimization.
